With your financial donations and volunteer hours,
together, we create opportunities for meaningful
engagement with veterans and North Texas communities
We know when communities have meaningful ways to honor and appreciate veterans they are inspired and engaged.
That’s why we have created multiple ways for communities to engage with veterans and their ideal of “service above self” to inspire lasting, positive community change.
"Before our participation in the GDVF Art Contest, we had never participated in an art contest that had so much meaning. The GDVF Art Contest has students research an annual rotating veterans theme to inspire their creations. One year, a student made a wonderful drawing of the flag raised at Iwo Jima and during the Awards Ceremony, met a local veteran who fought in that famous battle! Not only are we able to hone our craft, but we are also serving in a meaningful way. Students and communities are better for it."
Monica Hayslip,
Director of Visual Arts
Dallas Independent School District
"Prior to the work of GDVF, connecting veterans and communities wasn't viewed as a possibility at this scale. GDVF provides opportunities to honor veterans by connecting them with communities in various ways, keeping it fresh and relevant for all. The collaboration of veterans and communities, with GDVF at the helm, unites the Greater Dallas Area for a great cause."
Capt. John Hayes, U.S. Air Force (Ret.)
Past Commander
Dallas Chapter
Military Order of the World Wars
"This nation has given me so much that I will continue to give back until I take my last breath."
LTC Don B. Munson, US Army (Ret)
We engage communities with this veteran ideal through participation, education, and recognition.

Participation provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Whether you are an attendee, entrant, volunteer, donor, or sponsor, events couldn't be possible without you!
Student Art Contest | Mental Health Symposium
Our current education programs include an art contest for K-12 students in the Dallas ISD and a few other invited North Texas school districts to the public. These contests are both based upon a chosen annual military service theme.
Veterans Day Parade | Student Art Contest
These events are designed to recognize our veterans for their service. These events begin with a formal recognition ceremony and are open to the public. Acknowledgment by the community is central to inspiring positive community change.
We know when communities have meaningful ways to honor and appreciate veterans they feel inspired and engaged. That’s why Greater Dallas Veteran’s Foundation (GDVF), creates opportunities for them to engage with veterans and their ideal of “service above self” to inspire positive community change for generations to come.
At GDVF, we know you like to honor and appreciate veterans in meaningful ways. To do that, you need to have options and opportunities that keep your interest AND fit your, your family’s, or your organization's busy schedule.
The problem is with so many options out there, it can be overwhelming trying to choose where to go or what to do. You may even be feeling frustrated with trying to make a choice and, in the end, may end up doing nothing at all. We totally get it.
With less than six percent of the nation having served in the military, we know that most of our communities are often not exposed to authentic examples of patriotism and may take our freedom for granted. Having exposure to the veteran's ideal "service above self" can inspire lasting, positive community change for generations to come. That's why for the past 20 years, we have been connecting the veteran ideal of service with students, organizations, and communities. And recently, we have introduced additional opportunities that are fun, practical, and meaningful through participation, education, and recognition that not only give back to our veterans but allow our veterans to give back to you.
GDVF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which means any money we raise is invested in our veterans, students, and communities. Engage with us and inspire positive community change.
